Still, things took a long time to rez, but I guess it's just that loading every prim within 512m range takes a while, even with the 1Mb network speed I got on the server connection.

It's amazing what a difference it makes to your SL to be able to see things with the settings maxed! Ever since getting my new graphics card, I regularly run SL on the Ultra setting, with some minor tweaks. For a while when I was waiting for a new card last year, I had to run it on low. Yikes. LOL I never want to have to do that again!
